December of 1994
Everyone knew that the world was ending. We were all scrambling to find the people with whom we wanted to confront the end. I was running through a forest, with paths crisscrossing on all sides. Along the edges of some of the paths, groups of people stood side by side. The groups seemed to be divided along ethnic lines.
My path finally took me to the shore of a raging ocean. High on a cliff above the coast, a huge slab of flat rock lay. It was etched with deep lines that sectioned off portions by religion. There were spaces for Christians of many denominations, pagans, Thelemites, Buddhists, Muslims, and many other religions. I tried to find a space for myself before the sky opened. But there wasn’t a place set aside for me.
