Regardless of what many believe, I doubt that the apocalypse will be occuring during my life time. At least, not one that will involve a complete annihilation of our species. I am not denying that it will happen, just that it will be soon. The fact that everything else ends seems to indicate that our existance will follow the same sequence of events. I believe that this end will be of our own devise. This doesn’t mean there will be some moral breakdown in society which God will punish us for, it will not be “Judgement Day”. In reality, the most likely scenario is one in which someone, out of distrust or hatred or even plain stupidity, does something that the entire world will end up paying for. This could mean a nuclear holocaust (although, I hope the end is not due to such an extreme bout of ignorance and stupidity) or it may even come in the form of overpopulation to extreme to recover from. Regardless of how the end finally presents itself, it will eventually come, but it won’t be at the hands of a supreme being. Something so imperfect and terrible could never be caused by something perfect. Instead, it will come at the hands of an inferior race. It will be lead by our friends, our family, and even our children. That will be the worst apocalypse we could ever imagine, one that we bring to ourselves.
