They say in the beginning, the “Supreme Being” created everything, heavens and earth, light and dark, Good and Evil, everything. We know for a fact that there is evil in the world, as well as good. But when we evaluate our society, we see a startling trend. Technology = destructive capacity. This I believe is part of the evil the “Supreme Being” created to challenge and trst us with, how we control ourselves, and our technology.
Proof of this hypothesis can be found everywhere. 1st man had his hands, clumsy weapons, that required you to look your enemy in the eye, to get his blood on your hands. 2nd, man picked up objects like sticks and rocks, you could throw those, so man stepped back from his enemy, there by distancing himself from the evil of killing (or so he thought). Then man began to create things that shot projectiles, and threw boulders and large arrows, increasing the distance, making him feel more at ease about the killing, by then his enemy had no face, just blind hatred. Then man created firearms, you could be on a hill 1/4 mile away, and your enemy could die, without even seeing you, the killing so progressed.
In these latter days, man, in his endless search of perfect weapons with which to kill his enemies, discovered that by mixing certain chemicals, poisonous compounds could be derived, and dropped or sprayed on his enemy, asphyxiating or burning his enemy easily. But man wanted more, needed more, so he continued to develop, and refine the techniques and chemicals, till he created compounds that could eat through flesh, and cause cancer-like growths, infecting areas, so no vegetation could grow, starving his enemy, beating his even if he’s been beaten.
In man’s progression through his myriad of horrible creations, he, using his power for good, found out smaller beings that had been plaguing him, germs. Man first worked against these tiny creatures, fighting them with all manner of vaccines and anti-bacterial parephenalia, but the germs grew stronger. Man decided to outwit the germs by making them his agent, so man bred, and altered the microbes to become the spawn of his darkside, his own minions. He, in this process found yet smaller, semi-beings, viruses. He studied these protein encased beings, then began to selectively breed them also, creating more and more ferocious strains, creating mutation upon mutation, ever changing their structure. Man eventually learned that, no matter how hard he worked, Nature knew best. Nature had been selecting and breeding viruses for millions and millions of years, creating perfect killers. So man, being evil, yet good, collected these natural strains for weapons, while attempting to eradicate the uncontrolled strains.
Finally man harnessed the power of one of the smallest things he knew of, the atom. Using its tremendous power, he figured out how to not only kill his enemy, but to kill his enemy’s children, and their childrens children, and to make them weak with cancers and sicknesses.
Dresden, Germany, Hirshima and Nagasaki, Japan
These are only three, of hundreds. Hundreds of places, where thousands died because technology went unchecked, because man had the desire to explore. To see what would happen if he took the dark path.
What more can we expect, what more will we do. I do not know, nor do you. But I can say, I we as a species, do not begin to take the tremendous responsibility of keeping our technology in check, we may be wiped off the face of this planet. By a “Supreme Being”, by Nature, or by ourselves, if we do not control ourselves, we will be destroyed.
