A new strain of MousePox was the only intention to begin with. Created under the supervision of Mark Buller. This new strain is vaccine proof. Mice who had been given the mousepox vaccine still caught and died from this new form. 100% fatality rate. Thus, we learned that the smallpox virus can be altered to where no vaccine can stop it. This was caused by adding a gene for a natural immunosuppressant called IL-4. Fancy talk for basicly saying “vaccine can not work to prevent” But, it didn’t stop there. Within 1 year this IL-4 “rigged” strain had been created for several other species specific strains of the smallpox virus, including cow, rabbit, monkey. The IL-4 strain for the human form was created on April 6th 2004. A short preliminary outbreak simulation confirmed that if this strain was introduced into the public, only 0.0002% of the population would need to be infected before it would considered “too late”. This new human strain, labeled “Scarlet 4″ is being stored at 3 different locations. If you’re a religous person, pray for no accidents.

I dont know where u got your information, maybe its just food for thought (sounds kind of like The Stand, a Stephen King book), but anyway. I think if any government created a strain or virus like this they would either immediately attempt to destroy it, or suppress any and all knowledge about the virus through deadly force.

Funded by the American Government, scientists have developed a way to make the Pox virus deadly. The new virus kills all test mice even if they have been given antiviral drugs along with a vaccine that would normally protect the victim from death. According to the Howard Hughes Medical Facility, the discovery could pave the way to better protection for humans against the threat of smallpox, a related virus, as a weapon of bioterrorism. Mark Buller of the University of St. Louis has managed to modify mousepox, rabbitpox, and cowpox viruses so that they are deadly to vaccinated mice nearly 100% of the time through the introduction of an immunosuppressant protein called Interleukin-4 (IL-4). The modified pox viruses eliminate the immune system’s cell-mediated response. They are now immune to the antiviral drug Cidofovir, known to be the last line of defense in treating resistant viruses. “We are interested in not only overcoming an acute infection to save the individual, but at the same time helping to induce long-term immunity which will provide protection from a secondary infection.” says HHMI international research scholar Gunasegaran Karupiah, a scientist at the John Curtin School of Medical Research at the Australian National University.
The discovery was made by accident at the Australian National University in Canberra, though their virus only killed off 60 percent of infected mice. Although Karupiah’s group has now been working with mousepox for 15 years, investigators worldwide have been generally wary of working with the pathogen for fear it might spread to other mouse colonies. “Smallpox was one of the biggest human scourges,” said Karupiah, noting that in some populations there was a 30% mortality rate. “And yet, because it was successfully eradicated, no one was interested in understanding how individuals recovered. But now, of course, the interest is back because of the threat of bioterrorism.”
The implications of this discovery and their disclosure are staggering. IL-4 is a protein common in genetic research and as such is available on the Internet for as low as sixty dollars. Furthermore the procedure is simple, something that a biology graduate student should be able to manage without trouble. The bio-terrorist potential for an IL-4 modified pox virus that infects humans is extraordinary. Like anthrax, only those who come into contact with the virus itself would become infected. The virus would not spread and infect the attackers. Neither would it require state of the art scientific facilities to create such a virus. Buller and his team are currently working on a drug to resist the new viruses, but have so far been unsuccessful in making it 100% effective.

the story is alright, but even if there was this outbreak, there would still be survivors who would continue the human race, so if it happens, there is really just one solution to it,A-BOOM!!!
