This is the second time I saw an upside-down rainbow. The first time I saw it was on 1/5/06. Today, 1/15/06, I saw it a second time. I believe it is a sign of the times. Very apocalyptic. Jesus warned us that in the last days, there will be sign and wonders in the sky. There's a strange phenomenon here.

Just the other day my family saw an two upside-down rainbows at the same time. We were driving in the car, and we had our camera with us. We took several pictures, three or four of them showing the uppermost rainbow as a ring around the sun. The other one was just like a normal rainbow, stretching from one end of the sky to another. I don't know what to think! I think the scientific thing makes sense, but I would also like to believe that there is something more. No one in our family has passed away recently, but a family friend's mother-in-law did. Hmmmmmmm... I feel blessed to have seen this wonderful phenomenon!

My sister and I recently saw an upside down rainbow. We were at our mother's grave, on the 8th anniversary of her death. We were talking about her death, and questioning our judgements on the decisions we made in those last weeks, and all of a sudden, there it was.....the upside down rainbow. I read the scientific explanation, but it doesn't apply to this, because the sun was above the rainbow, not below it. It looked like my mom was smiling down at us, and letting us know that we made the right decisions.

Hello,
I would just like to point out that it is a simple natural phenomenon and not some strange sign. The reason it’s so rare is because usually this combination doesn’t happen very often in nature. From this page – http://www.livingwilderness.com/patterns/czarc.html – I was able to find an explanation.
« This upside down rainbow is actually a circumzenithal arc, the brightest and most vibrant of all the solar arcs. The arc is formed when the sun is relatively low on the horizon and shines into a layer of ice crystals high in the sky. The circumzenithal arc forms directly overhead. The trees on Cougar Mountain near Bellevue, Washington appear to lean because the camera is pointed straight up. »
The page also has a very nice picture of such a rainbow.

I saw the upside down rainbow as well. My friend told me about it and I didn't believe her, we just met up outside the park. She took me to see it and I nearly fainted, an upside down rainbow?!?

I saw an upside down rainbow today - but not rain just before. it was a beautiful blue sky, with practically no clouds. Gorgeous... never seen one before - and hope to see one again. sadly i did not have my camera. it lasted quite awhile.

On April 11,2003, our children were hosting a 50th wedding anniversary celebration for us with a shrimp boil in our backyard. When I walked outside and looked up, there was an upside down rainbow. We felt it quite appropriate for the festivity. Fortunately, I had the camera at the ready and took a picture of it. What causes them ?
